A LEADING body representing the construction industry is using its annual award scheme to remind people why new homes are a "sound" investment.

The National House Building Council is launching its 2002 Pride In the Job competition to find the UK's best house-building site manager.

"The competition focuses on house-building quality, an issue which has never been more important than in today's buoyant housing market," said Paul Bamford, NHBC senior regional director.

"Our figures show that in the first three months of 2002, 4 per cent more homes were built than in the first quarter of 2001. It's now the perfect time for buyers to snap up a new home."

Standards

He said practical reasons for making your next home a new one included low repair and maintenance costs, modern design and equipment, no decorating legacy and energy efficiency.

More than 17,000 people enter NHBC's annual Pride In the Job competition, which aims to find Britain's best house site managers.

"It's through their professionalism and attention to detail that new homes are built to the highest possible standards."
