THIS year's Kidderminster Carnival gets underway with a musical tribute to a world-famous composer next week.

Richard Rodgers will be the subject of a carnival concert performed by the West Midland Light Orchestra at Kidderminster Town Hall on Friday, June 14 at 7.30pm.

Musical director Hilary Summers will take the baton while the orchestra will be led by Warren Bond and singing regulars Jonathan Darby, Claire Warboys and John Hutton will all be putting in appearances.

The first half of the programme will focus on Rodgers' partnership Lorenz Hart and will feature favourites such as Bewitched, My Funny Valentine, and The Lady Is a Tramp, while his hits with Oscar Hammerstein will comprise the second half.

These include You'll Never Walk Alone, Some Enchanted Evening and This Nearly Was Mine.

Proceeds go to carnival charities Wyre Forest Headway for the brain injured and the Friends Youth Club for autistic children.

The carnival takes place on June 22 and anyone wanting a stall or to take part in the street parade can contact chairman Colin Hill on 01562 751634.
