IT was a day to remember for pupils when a Kidderminster school joined in the nation's jubilee celebrations.

Birchen Coppice First School beat the weather on Thursday as staff and children dressed up for a royal parade in the school car park, festooned with bunting and balloons. Children at Birchen Coppice First School are pictured with a patriotic picnic.

A picnic was devoured amid a sea of flags and the day ended with staff and children dancing the conga.

"It was excellent," said head teacher Janet Morris. "The children dressed up as kings and queens for a grand parade and all the staff dressed up as queens - with a token king!

"Parents had gone to a lot of trouble to make the costumes. Even the nursery took part."

As a memento, each child was presented with a jubilee mug featuring the school's crest.

"It was a day to remember, and I think the children will," said Mrs Morris.
