PUPILS at Astley Primary School combined fun with learning when they celebrated with a "Jubilee Day" packed full of entertainment on Thursday.

"We had a crown competition with the children making their own crowns, we had a parade and a tea party with jubilee cakes," said head teacher Gill Griffiths. Nathan Claris, six, and seven-year-old Elisha Jordan are pictured during the jubilee day.

"The children were all wearing red, white and blue home clothes, and each class sang songs with a royal theme. They were very excited."

She added: "They've been learning about the flag and learning about the royal family."

And the school has been lending some creativity to the village celebrations. "We've got close connections with Astley Village Hall because we use it as a school hall, and we've been involved in designing posters for them," said Mrs Griffiths.
