COLIN Layland, the former Labour Group Whip on Worcester City Council, in his reply (You Say, May 27) to my efforts to engage the Independents in political debate calls for "a return to good old-fashioned socialism".
I have heard rumours that the Independents like to portray themselves as Real Labour. Yet, when elected they have, over the past two years at the annual council meeting, given their votes to the conservatives to ensure that the Tories run the city council.
I doubt whether Councillor Steven Inman and his august colleagues see themselves as custodians of "good old-fashioned socialism".
