ALL-rounder Peter Fryers has wasted no time in making his mark on county club cricket after notching up figures of 8-62 for Old Elizabethans seconds to earn the Evening News/Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd Cricketer of the Week award.

The 30-year-old, playing only his third game for the club after moving to Worcestershire, helped OEs to a five-wicket victory over Hagley in the second teams Worcestershire League Division One.

He was more than happy with his performance on a pitch that was not totally bowler friendly.

"It wasn't the best of tracks but there was quite a bit of swing and the ball did lots in the air which is where most of the wickets came from," he said.

Fryers has taken eight wickets in an innings before, but for less runs, and gave a glimpse of his promise in only his second match for OEs when he took 4-10 off 12 overs.

The six foot five strike bowler is relishing playing cricket again after being forced to take a season off as he prepared to move to the Faithful City and a new job with the NHS based at Birmingham University.

One of the first things Fryers did on arriving in Worcester was to hunt down his nearest side which to OEs good fortune brought him to the Memorial Ground.

Fryers, an Exeter University graduate from Lancashire, played for six years in Yorkshire for Ripley in the Nidderdale League where he also batted in the middle order

His superb display with the ball has earned him £40 vouchers to spend at Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd in Sherriff Street, Worcester.
