THE Worcestershire Cricket Board side is in the mood to book a dream trip to Lord's.

The team, made up mostly of some of the brightest young talent in the county, has made an excellent start to its ECB 38-County Cup campaign.

They've won two out of two so far in the 50-over competition.

Victory over their Warwickshire counterparts at Kidderminster on Sunday (11am) will go a long way towards securing a quarter-final spot.

The Worcestershire side has never previously reached the last eight in the competition for county board sides and the Minor Counties, but are confident of doing so this time and have their eyes set on a Lord's final on September 3.

Young players on the County staff as well as several products of the Academy - the youngest being Kidderminster's 15-year-old wicketkeeper Steve Davies - have figured in the side.

They started this season's campaign with a 40-run win over Gloucestershire CB at Bristol, and followed with a seven-wicket defeat of Wales at Pontarddulais.

Cricket board chairman Allan Scrafton said: "It is a very young team this year - the average age is 20-21 - but they are competitive and they want to prove things.

"The policy of the board side is that it must be the first stage of getting through to county cricket. We have some good young players and they are getting some good experience against county standard players. Their success has been a bonus."

Worcestershire return to Kidderminster for their final group match on June 23 against Herefordshire, who are likely to be their chief rivals for top spot.

Herefordshire, who won the competition in 2000, have yet to start their cup campaign this season. Their first match is also on Sunday, against Wales at Dales, Leominster.
