Also dressed up to the nines were Alice Parry, six, Sally Jones, three, and Jodie Hare, five. Jodie's mum, Lisa, of Court Close, Kidderminster, said: "It's a shame the weather's turned but we're hoping to have a great day out. We're going to a street party this afternoon."

Rolf Harris lookalike Mike Lewis hosted a karaoke competition which was drawing to a close as the sun finally broke through just in time for the evening's live music programme with glam rock band Ballroom Glitz. Among the civic dignitaries lending their support to the revels was Wyre Forest MP Dr Richard Taylor. He said: "It was lovely to see family groups arriving with grandparents and grandchildren. The weather has not put people off and it has been a great weekend."

Mr Stokes added: "We'd have got more people into town if the weather had been kinder but it has been a successful weekend. The shop window competition was excellent; we had a beautiful church service on Sunday and I'm very pleased with what we've achieved.

"And some of the efforts people have put into street parties in the town has been tremendous. Broad Street in particular was superbly decorated."
