DEVIOUS bikers who race their vehicles around a Worcester park are concealing them in trees to hide them from police, claim residents.

The reckless riders, who tear round King George V Playing Fields, in Brickfields, smuggle the bikes under the branches to avoid detection by officers.

One woman, who does not want to be named, fears that more bikers are set to flock to the park during the summer.

"I can hear the motorbikes, mainly on a Sunday," she said.

"But it will get worse in the summer, during the long and warm evenings, just like they did last year."

Councillor David Barlow said liaising with the police was the best way of tackling the problem.

"The problem with the park is that there's still about seven different exits and you would have to take half of the West Mercia Constabulary to block off all the routes," he said.

"I still get calls about it and keep police informed about what the latest position is and let them know that people still ring me.

Beat manager for Brickfields and Tolladine, PC Tina Taylor, revealed that officers are in constant contact with residents about the craze.

"Residents alert us to the use of motorcycles in the area and recently the number of calls relating to this has greatly diminished," she said.

"But when incidents are reported to us we do investigate and confiscate the cycles where necessary.

"However, we also understand how the behaviour of these motorcyclists causes disruption but we also know that it is only a small number of offenders indulging in this behaviour.

"Local information is the key to this problem. People living in the area know the identity of these youngsters and I would appeal to them to share that information with me on 01905 723888.

"If they have information that they would prefer to give anonymously, then they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

Coun Barlow backed police efforts to stamp out the problem.
