THE Queen's Silver Jubilee was the main talking point in Bromsgrove. The event would be celebrated with street parties, a carnival and a bonfire, barbecue and music in Sanders Park. The town was gaily decorated and workers from Garringtons at Aston Fields had undertaken to hang garlands and bunting from the Market Hall.

BROMSGROVE Rovers average gate last season had been 526 with 14,747 paying at the Victoria Ground turnstiles to see the 28 home matches. The highest attendance had been 1,664 for the game against Worcester City and the lowest, 210 against Corby Town.

PEOPLE in Bromsgrove were being warned by police to destroy a so called chain prayer letter if they received one through the post. The recipients were asked to send 20 copies to others in order to get a "surprise." The Rev Hugh Pruen, Recor of Belbroughton, called the letters "sub Christian."

THE first task for councillor Maurice Broomfield, the newly elected chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, was to send a telegram to the Queen congratulating her on attaining her Silver Jubilee.

THE Arts Minister Lord Donaldson paid a brief visit to Avoncoft Museum of Buildings at Stoke Heath, Bromsgrove, during a whistle stop tour of the county. While there he was quizzed about funding for museums in view of the government's cutbacks in spending.
