THERE will be no danger of Michael O'Rourke falling asleep when he launches a fundraising event - even though he will be wearing his pyjamas.

Michael, of Barrington Road, will be cycling from Rubery to Malvern on Sunday, June 30, and will be wearing his pyjamas during the bike ride.

The Waseley Hills High School pupil is holding his unusual fundraising event to help cover the costs of a gap year placement in South Africa.

"I will be teaching underprivileged children English and geography in South Africa for six months.

"Unfortunately the placement costs £3,000, so I have raise funds to achieve the target," he said.

He hopes to study history at university next year and would like to become a teacher.

Michael will team up with family and friends for the ride, which is around 28 miles long.

He is due to leave Waseley Hills High School at 10.15am on Sunday with stops at Bromsgrove bus station at 11am, Droitwich at 12.30pm and Worcester at 2.15pm.

Michael and his friends are due to finish the ride between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

The teenager, who has two siblings, has realised he will be missing an important World Cup match and hopes his sacrifice will help him raise the extra £1,000 he needs.
