THE skies of Bromsgrove were filled with cascades of red, white and blue balloons as one school marked the Queen's Golden jubilee with the opening of their new playground.

The project was led and funded by the parents and teachers of pupils at Millfields First School, in Swift Close. They officially opened their new £13,500 playground last Friday.

The facility was opened by Rob Wolsey, whose nine-year-old son James, a pupil at the school, died earlier this year from leukaemia. The playground has been dedicated in his memory.

Other activities on the day included a fashion show, party games, a street party in the playground, puppet show and the whole school took part in a line dance.

Headteacher Sarah Power said: "It's all down to the parents that we are able to open this new playground.

"Without their help and support we would never have been able to afford it.

"The children thoroughly enjoyed the day.

"They had great fun practising the line dance which involved around 160 of our children."
