IT was a love of dancing that brought Bob and Denise Baker together.

The talented duo crossed paths after attending the same latin dance classes in Dudley in 1986. This was about the same time that Saturday Night Fever was settling down only to be replaced by dances inspired by Fame, Footloose, Strictly Ballroom and the dance classic of the late 80's, Dirty Dancing.

Bob started dancing when he was 12. He enjoyed a variety of classes including latin and jazz and wanted to be a professional dancer. After years of examinations, he competed in some top dance competitions.

Denise was introduced to the magical world of dancing when she was only three-years-old.

She attended ballet, tap and acrobatics and performed in many London shows throughout her childhood.

The pair later gained top teaching certificates and decided to set up the Bromsgrove School of Dance in the High Street in 1989.

"The dance scene was very different when we first started out," said Denise. "When people thought of disco dancing they thought of John Travolta's moves from the 1970's film.

"Obviously times had changed and we produced modern routines inspired by the likes of Top of the Pops. We started off with classes in freestyle and rock 'n' roll and worked from 5pm to 8pm, but now it's a nine hour day."

Success meant that Bob and Denise's reputation grew and their classes became more popular. Bob trained the Lambada champions, in 1990, numerous pupils have competed in national dance competitions, while others have been accepted into top dance schools and West End musicals.

Bob said: "When we first started we wanted to provide dance classes that were accessible to the whole community.

"The classes are affordable and paid individually rather than on a termly basis. Anyone, male or female, of any age can join. It keeps youngsters out of mischief, making them more aware of the latest music, trends and fashions around them."
