VISITORS to St John's Parish Church, Bromsgrove, over four days of the jubilee holiday were treated to a flower festival organised by Jenny Ashmore, who co-ordinates the ancient building's flower rota.

The vicar, the Rev Nigel Marns, said there had been a steady stream of vistors, as there had been on Saturday when the tower was open to the public.

On Sunday a congregation of more than 300 attended a Jubilee service after which each was handed a commemorative gold certificate.

Town MP Julie Kirkbride read Housman's poem 1887 and handed out prizes to the three winners of a schools' poetry competition organised by Mr Marns.

Pupils from St John's and Millfields schools took part in the service and Court Leet Bailiff David Turner and the chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, Cllr David Hancox read parts of speeches made by the Queen over the years.

Representatives from the Royal British Legion and Royal Naval Association were also present.

The service concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
