NEIL McKinnon (Shakespeare) was £10,000 richer last Sunday when, at Moorlands Farm, he became the Ultimate League Champion.

Fished over three matches, McKinnon secured a four point tally and a total weight of 230-15-0.

But fish at many of our fisheries are still in the doldrums with water temperatures fluctuating daily and only a long spell of warm, settled weather will get them into a feeding frenzy to produce more ton-up catches.

On Tuesday, May 28, the Woodlands View affordable open was hit by atrocious weather, which saw a number of good anglers struggling for bites and it was the more sheltered areas of Arles pool that produced the goods.

Mike Hood (Bromages) at peg nine pole fished corn and meat for a top catch of 56-5-0; second place went to Simon William (Fosters Tipton) with 52-8-0 and third to John Knight (Willow Creek) with 39-6-0.

Northfield's Starlets Veterans were at Moorlands Farm Meadow pool when 76-year-old Ken Hall (Northfield) took first place with a mixed 41-6-0 catch taken with pole and red maggots from peg ten.

Second was Brian Hill (Stourport), taking 32-8-0; third was Dave Bennett's (Stourbridge) 31-14-0.

On Wednesday, May 29, the Woodlands View Deans pool open was won by Dave Williams (Woodlands) with a pole and meat catch of 55-12-0 from peg 59.

Tim Guise (Slapheads) took 49-14-0 for second and third was Joe Roberts (Map Starlets) with 39-8-0.

The Moorlands Farm Meadow pool open saw Grant Albutt (Daiwa Dorking) show his Carp pool prowess by putting 120-12-0 on the scales by pole fishing corn up in the water at peg 15.

Clive Munslow (Shakespeare) was second with 90-1-0 from opposite peg 55; third was Tom Pickering (Barnsley), taking 87-7-0.

The three-hour evening open was held on the Silvercarp pool and it was Hallcroft anglers who took the top three places, headed by Jamie Masson with a pole and corn mixed catch of 65-11-0.

Second went to Paul Hodgekinson's 48-4-0 while Paul Morgan's 32-10-0 was enough for third.

Moorlands Farm's Thursday special costcutter open was won by Lee Richards (Lifestyle) by pole fishing corn and pellets at Meadow Pool peg five for 82-4-0.

Jason Skipper (Hallcroft) took 70-8-0 for second and third went to Darren Clewley (Wesson) with 68-4-0.

Kings Heath Starlets Veterans held their event at Barbourne pool, Cotheridge, where good catches were recorded. The winner was Roger Banfield (Stourport) who pole fished corn at peg one for 41-10-0 of small Carp.

Lady angler Pat Kavanagh (Stourbridge) was second with 36-40; third was Harold Willey (Kidderminster, taking 34-0-0.

On Friday, the Moorlands Farm open was won by Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) by pole fishing corn up in the water from Meadow pool peg 18 for a ton-up catch of 106-7-0.

Phil Morgan (Hallcroft) followed with a second placed 88-4-0; third was Dave Hinton (Map Starlets) with 82-9-0.

Saturday saw the final round of the Lower Broadheath spring league.

Droitwich matchman Rob Francis led his Droitwich Angling Centre team Red to glory with a winning 89-4-0 of Carp by pole fishing worms in the margins of Old pool peg three.

Bromsgrove's best angler John Newton was a close second with 85-10-0 and third was Carl Stevens' (Dudley Bait and Tackle) 82-14-0.

Greenman were the top team on the day with 14 points, Dudley Bait and Tackle 18, Odds and Sods 20.

Droitwich Angling Centre Red took the title with 105 points; Dudley Bait and Tackle were second with 122 and unity AC were third with 142.

The final round of the Woodlands View Spring league saw all pools used with Simon Fry (Map Startles) in pole position with a brilliant 132-1-0 catch by pole fishing corn and meat up in the water at Deans pool peg 48.

Eric Jones (AOK) was second with 80-8-0 while Pete Wedgebrow (Slapheads) took 73-2-0 for third.

The day's winners were Slapheads with eight points; Woodlands Blue took second with 12 and joint third were Midlands Match and Shakespeare A with 14.

Overall, Slapheads took the title with 69 points, Map Starlets had 79 and Oxford Drennan were third with 85.

At Wyre Forest fishery, Furnace Mill, the record was broken yet again with a 147-14-0 Carp haul, taken by Rob Cooksey (Spartans) by pole fishing maggots at Mucky Meadow pool peg 37.

Team mates Chris Whitehouse and Pete Round followed with 98-14-0 and 64-10-0 respectively.

Sunday afternoon's Mucky Meadow pool open saw a close result headed by Paul Gregory (Swan AC) who pole fished casters meat and worms at peg 32 for a 62-4-0 catch.

Runner-up Brian Wood (Furnace Mill) had 61-12-0 and third went to Phil Coles (Furnace Mill), taking 60-11-0.
