FLASHING of a different kind brought Tom Heneghan to the attention of the Sunday crowd at Exhall as the villagers booked a date in the Group semi-final of the National Village Championship.

Three days after making an exhibition of himself at Edgbaston, Heneghan gave an exhibition of big hitting that blasted Kineton out of last weekend's rearranged tie.

Chasing 139 for victory, Exhall and Wixford had slumped to 101-5 with star batsmen Matt Gwynn and Leon Gates back in the pavilion.

The stage was set for another Heneghan show but it was his flashing blade that smashed Steve Clarke, who had previously removed Exhall's top duo, for two 4s and a 6 off successive balls to end any hopes of an away win.

B J Weston's return swiftly ended Heneghan's knock and the walk back from the wicket was slightly slower than his Test match sprint!

Skipper Gwynn and Aussie Gates had earlier added 48 for the fourth wicket to build a sound platform for last season's last 32 qualifiers to progress even further this time around.

Gates had impressed with the ball, especially in a superb four-over second spell that brought the Australian three wickets at a cost of only seven runs as Kineton slipped from 71-3 to 117-8.

Gates had struck the first blow after Heneghan had dropped Briggs, while Paul Hay's first ball accounted for Brown.

Steve Keen also enjoyed success in his opening over but, at 71-3 after 15 overs, Kineton appeared set to post a challenging target.

However, Gates's inspired stint with the ball, Gwynn's assured strokeplay and Heneghan's hitting helped Exhall streak to a five-wicket win.

They now visit Fillongley on Sunday. Their hosts defeated Offchurch, the side Exhall overcame in last year's Warwickshire/Leicestershire final.
