Worcestershire Saints suffered another heavy defeat in the Rugby League Conference, going down 68-8 against Cardiff Demons at University College Worcester.

After the 14-try mauling from the Gloucester Warriors the previous weekend, the Saints had the worst possible start against a Cardiff team who needed the points to maintain their play -off hopes.

Before the Saints had completed a tackle the visitors had scored two tries in the opening four minutes to lead by 10-0.

Reduced to 12 players with the controversial sending off of Mark Hurn the home team raised their game forcing the Demons to loose some of their early momentum.

Some basic handling errors from the visitors gave the home team the advantage and it was no surprise when Manny Samra crossed the Cardiff line to score his first try of the season Richard Whitehouse duly converted and the Saints only trailed by four points.

Grant Frasier then went close to levelling the scores before the visitors' regained control of the match with a converted try after 26 minutes.

Two further scores for the Demons followed and with half-time approaching Whitehouse scored from a penalty to reduce the margin to 28-8.

James Robson came close to scoring on the half-time whistle but he was forced in to touch close to the try-line.

This was the closest that the Saints came to reducing the margin and for the rest of the game they struggled to make any impression on a physically intimidating Cardiff team who had a total of three players sin-binned and one sent off.

Three converted tries in the opening nine minutes of the second half gave the visitors complete control before a second sin binning slowed their progress.

With a numerical advantage Worcester prevented any further tries until the final 20 minutes when the Demons crossed the try line on five further occasions to bring a final score of 68-8
