HEREFORDSHIRE made a winning start to their Minor Counties Championship Western Division campaign with a 139-run victory over Wales at Colwall.
After a blank second day, Wales, who resumed on 7-1, declared their first innings on 83-8 with Aamir Farooque taking 3-18, Kevin Cooper 2-16 and Paul Lazenbury 2-11. Owen Dawkins top-scored with 30.
Herefordshire, who made 348-6 declared in their first innings, then forfeited their second innings to set Wales a victory target of 266 in 69 overs.
But they were dismissed for 126 in 51 overs, with only 18-year-old Kamal Khanna (70) putting up much resistance before he was last out.
Cooper (4-33) and Farooque (4-36) were the main destroyers, with support from Simon Roberts (2-22).
Herefordshire took 23 points to Wales' two, giving them confidence going into Sunday's opening ECB 38 County Cup group match against the same opponents at Dales, Leominster.
