KABIR Ali was the star as Worcestershire Royals made it two wins out of two in the Norwich Union League Division One with a six-wicket victory over Yorkshire Phoenix at Headingley.

Yorkshire were dismissed for just 128 in 33 overs, with in-form Kabir taking five for 36.

Worcestershire cruised home with eight overs and six wickets to spare as Yorkshire's miserable start to the season continued.

Defending a meagre score, Matthew Hoggard ripped into Worcestershire's top order, taking the first two wickets, Vikram Solanki and skipper Graeme Hick, with just four on the board.

But Anurag Singh (33) and Ben Smith (38no) stemmed the tide, steering Worcestershire onto 63 before the former was caught by Gary Fellows off a short one from Craig White.

With 21 overs remaining Worcestershire required just 51 runs with seven wickets still in hand. After the loss of David Leatherdale for 18, Smith and Gareth Batty (20no) steered them home.

Earlier White got Yorkshire off to a flying start, thumping four fours and three sixes on his way to 45 from 42 balls before going for one big hit too many against Kabir to leave Yorkshire on 59 for one.

Three wickets in the space of six balls soon had the Tykes reeling at 74 for four.

Kabir had Matthew Wood (8) caught at second slip by Hick, then Stuart Lampitt trapped Michael Vaughan lbw before the England batsman had troubled the scorers. Next ball Australian Simon Katich followed Vaughan back to the pavilion, run out by Batty for a duck.

Kabir collected his third wicket when Anthony McGrath went for a duck, given lbw, and five balls later Lampitt bowled Gary Fellows off an inside edge to leave the home side on 75 for six. Yorkshire had lost four wickets for five runs in the space of 15 balls.

Richard Dawson had battled hard to stem the flow and during the next seven overs he helped take the score on to 109 before edging one from Kabir behind to Steve Rhodes, having hit five fours for his 33.

Only five more runs were added when Kabir snapped up his fifth wicket, to leave Yorkshire on 115 for eight in the 28th over. Debutant Allan Donald mopped up the tail with two for 27.
