WYCHBOLD RBL will be without hotshot striker Matthew Jenkins for another season as he recovers from an horrific injury.

Jenkins, aged 20, broke his right leg in two places at the end of January and has not played since.

The Chequers Lane resident is on the road to recovery but the club do not expect him to be back in action until the 2003/2004 season.

Club secretary Alan Brown said: "He is progressing well. He is walking and back at work but it's still delicate and the doctor has advised him to miss next season."

But up until that point, Jenkins had found the net 27 times and was honoured for his achievement at an end of season ceremony last month.

Jenkins' special award came on a night when the club recognised the efforts of its players, who finished third in the Redditch and South Warwickshire Combination division one.

Andy Crowther picked up three titles as he was named player of the year, top scorer and claimed the honour for most man of the match awards.

The committees' player of the year went to Andy Jenkins while Mark Clements was the managers' player of the year.

Club person of the year was Ross Rooke and joint manager Darren Maycroft was made a life member.

For the reserve team, Nick Turberville and Rooke were players of the year, Jon Reeves was the committees' player of the year and got the gong for man of the match awards.

Turberville was also the managers' player of the year and Dean Maycroft was the top scorer.
