HOCKEY stars of the future descended on Bromsgrove School to train with some of the country's top players.

Sixty youngsters from schools across Worcestershire spent Monday, May 27, at the Worcester Road school taking part in coaching sessions and a tournament.

St John's School, in Watt Close, and Hagley Middle School were two of the schools invovled.

Coaching was provided by Bromsgrove School's hockey coaches, including current England captain and Sydney Olympian Craig Parnham and Jimi Lewis, the current England goalkeeper.

Both Parnham and Lewis will be part of England's squad for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester this summer.

Also offering their advice were former England and Great Britain players Chris Mayer and Steve Floyd, England U16 manager and master of hockey at Bromsgrove School.

During the day the children took part in various activities, including attacking and defending sessions, and spent time with each of the coaches.

In the afternoon the youngsters were split into mixed teams to put what they had learned into practice in a tournament.

Organiser Rachel Scannell said: "The whole reason for the day is to give a once in a lifetime opportunity to have coaching from England coaches."

Artificial turf pitches were used for the day.
