A WORCESTER tot dubbed "Amazing Amy" by hospital staff after making a miracle recovery from illness has returned home to her family.

Amy Lambert, who battled back from a number of conditions at Birmingham Children's Hospital, is now enjoying life in her Rainbow Hill home.

Amy was admitted to hospital in December after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

While in hospital she also spent time in the paediatric intensive care unit for a severe blood infection and fought off a bout of pneumonia.

Since then, she has spent time in the hospital's oncology unit and had a course of intensive chemotherapy treatment.

'Our little miracle'

Parents Darren and Laura will now treat her at home after staff trained them to give medicines and physiotherapy.

"Amy is our little miracle - it's amazing that she has battled against all the odds and is now making good progress," they said.

"She has had the toughest of starts to life and we want to thank everyone on both the intensive care unit and the oncology ward for their fantastic care.

"We know that Amy will still have to undergo treatment for leukaemia at the hospital for two years, but we are so grateful that she has come through this particularly difficult time.

"We can now start to live a life as a family again."

Staff at Birmingham Children's Hospital are delighted Amy is well enough to go home.

"We are amazed at how well both Amy and her family have coped with such a serious illness," said Dr Sarah Lawson, consultant oncologist.
