DAZZLED by the colour, dazed by the adulation, the Queen waves to well-wishers on her ride up the Mall as Golden Jubilee celebrations reached a climax in London yesterday.

More than a million witnessed the pomp and pageantry of the Royal procession before the day of joy was capped with a flypast by Concorde and the Red Arrows - and two renditions of Land of Hope and Glory.

The Queen was described by senior courtiers as "absolutely sparkling" after the event.

"It doesn't matter who you are, to see that sea of flags and faces down the Mall was splendid," said Lord Sterling. "It was a wonderful day for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

"What was also an enormous pleasure is that it wasn't just harping back to yesterday," he added.

"When you saw the children involved and the pleasure on their faces, you realised they would one day bring their children and grandchildren to a similar event."
