A WORCESTER shop is encouraging people to wear hats and raising money for a cancer charity at the same time.

The Hat Shop, in Friar Street, is planning promotional activity to coincide with Week of Hats, a national initiative to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief that runs this week until Sunday, June 9.

Organised in conjunction with the British Hat Guild, the week has been planned to coincide with the Golden Jubilee and the start of the summer hat-wearing season for events such as Ascot and for weddings.

"Activities planned for the week will raise funds for Macmillan's much-needed cancer care services, and encourage people to buy and wear British-made hats more frequently," said a spokeswoman.

Some hat shops are donating 10 per cent of sales during the week to the charity. There will also be fundraising events such as hat-wearing Garden Parties and Wear a Hat To Work Day, on Friday, June 7.

Macmillan Cancer Relief is a UK charity which helps to provide expert care and practical and emotional support for people living with cancer.
