BOWLERS at a Worcester club are being bombarded with missiles every time they step out on the green.

Thugs roaming King George V Playing Fields hurl bricks, golf balls and footballs as team members are enjoying their game.

The vandals have also targeted the children's playground next to the bowling green at the Brickfields park.

"They tried to smash the doors to our hut when we weren't here and they throw bricks at us when we're playing," said one team member, who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals.

"The fence surrounding the green cost £30,000 and that's been damaged.

Panels bent

"And it looks as if a car has been driven into the railings of the children's area as the panels are all bent.

"They're mindless yobs. They've got the whole field to play on, but instead they come and harass us.

"It's been terrible, but if you say anything all you get is a mouthful of abuse. We just don't know what the answer is.

"If we do say anything, we're scared they'll do worse and throw more bricks."

The bowler revealed team members were forced to keep watch over their vehicles.

"We even have to park nearby to make sure nothing happens," he said.

"Although it's not usually too bad during the day, it tends to get worse at night."

Ward councillor David Barlow hailed the bowling green as the best in the city, but said he was not surprised by the bowlers' allegations.

"I don't know why these vandals go and play on there when they've got the rest of the park to play on," said Coun Barlow.

"Trouble in the park has been going on for ages."
