IT was a question of one game too many for Malvern Town's U18s as they went down 2-1 to a very good Churchill United side in the final of the Bromsgrove - Malvern Youth Cup (U18s) on Monday night.

CHURCHILL UNITED 2, MALVERN TOWN 1

Churchill took the lead when Town's defence hesitated over a possible offside and Churchill's forward went on to score. Churchill made it 2-0 when they scored a cracking free kick from just outside the 18 yard box.

In the second half Town pressurised and pulled one goal back through skipper Michael Cole. Despite doing on to dominate the remainder of the match and going close on several occasions, they could not do enough to pull this game back.

Whilst it would have been nice to have had a clean sweep, Town's U18s can be pleased with winning four trophies this season, together with the fair play award which is just rewards for their efforts.

- In their semi-final tie against Bromsgrove Town the previous Thursday Malvern had romped home 5-1.

Goals from Lee Hooper and Will Murtagh gave Town a 2-0 half-time lead.

Joe Leighton set up Hooper for the third goal and skipper Michael Cole grabbed the fourth.

The best goal of the evening saw Tom Drew cross from the left wing for Murtagh to grab his second.

Andy Wetherill grabbed a consolation for Bromsgrove scoring at the second attempt.
