THERE is only one question to be asked about Throckmorton's asylum centre - who speaks for we, the people?
MP Peter Luff will no doubt bring together protesters for the public enquiry, but he is solving the wrong problem. The root cause of England's asylum seekers problem is primarily that asylum seekers are not asylum seekers but economic migrants.
Even the Asylum Minister, Lord Rooker, says they are "young men who have deserted their families for economic advantage."
England is a magnet for economic migrants. They can disappear into already established communities - a million that have no legal rights to live here have already done so.
In addition, it is undeclared Government policy to accept 100,000 economic migrants every year. Government "policy", on illegal immigrants, literally amounts to "if you can get here you can stay".
Once you understand that (successive) governments do not intend to forcibly return all illegal immigrants, to their country of origin, plans for so called "asylum centres" become nothing more than political window dressing.
Against that background, vast sums of public money are going to be thrown down the drain, on a cosmetic exercise that will achieve absolutely nothing. At Throckmorton and elsewhere, the lives of thousands of ordinary people are going to be destroyed.
