I AM a resident of a village close to the proposed asylum seekers centre at Throckmorton.
I firmly believe in the right of citizens to seek political asylum if they are genuinely oppressed in their own country. They should be able to claim asylum in the nearest free country.
Therefore, my full support will be given to citizens of the United States, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France or Ireland.
Instead of spending millions on new asylum seekers centres, this government should direct the funds to stopping the illegal entry, particularly through France.
This country seems more than willing to assist these people to pass through on route to Great Britain.
ROD SMITH,
Fladbury, Pershore.
