WILL Clifford and Will Murtagh made light of a wet wicket at Malvern College to put together a match winning partnership of 130.

MALVERN COLLEGE v MONMOUTH SCHOOL

A delayed start because of rain had reduced the match to 40 overs each and Malvern were struggling at 31-3 when Murtagh joined Gifford and they accelerated away out of sight, Murtagh eventually falling for 60 and Gifford remaining undefeated on 91. Malvern's total of 189-5 looked unassailable.

Edkins led the attack, taking 4-13, but everyone played his part to the hilt and Monmouth subsided meekly to 64 all out, losing by the emphatic margin of 125 runs.

KING EDWARD'S SCHOOL, BIRMINGHAM v MALVERN COLLEGE

MALVERN College comfortably defeated a strong KES Birmingham side in a limited overs match.

Malvern batted first and put together a workmanlike total of 152-4 off their 35 overs. The mainstay of their innings was provided by Craig Wood who scored 64.

After he departed the momentum slowed a little but the Malvern total seemed competitive enough.

And so it proved. The life in the KES reply was slowly and ruthlessly strangled by tight Malvern bowling and competent fielding. Griffiths caught the eye, bowling his left armers at a lively pace (he also took a stunning catch at cover) but it must be said that all the bowlers played their part in a well-nigh faultless display.

REPTON SCHOOL v MALVERN COLLEGE

MALVERN College secured a draw with their century old rivals in the most dramatic fashion with the last batsman blocking out the final over of a match they so nearly won.

Repton posted 178-8 declared with Crowther unbeaten on a century and extras 41 (25 wides!).

At 112-2, with Wood (57) and Gifford batting well, all looked good but Malvern collapsed with four run outs and it was left to injured number 11 Tom Tolchard to deny Repton victory although Malvern only fell 15 runs short.
