COLWALL playing their second league game of the season against rivals OEs lost the toss at Perdiswell on a very soft wicket and not surprisingly were asked to bat.

OLD ELIZABETHAN 3RD XI v COLWALL 3RD XI

After a steady start from Lewis and Holland putting on 27 for the first wicket when Holland was caught trying to force the pace. However big hitting Kim Berry (50) joined Lewis in an 80 run partnership, which was the turning point with both batting sensibly until Lewis (45) was unluckily out hit wicket.

The momentum was continued by some fine batting and running between the wicket from Kendall (53), Alamatu (27) and new boy Rhodes (18) allowing skipper Lewis the luxury of declaring after 45.2 overs leaving OEs with the daunting task of chasing 232 to win.

In reply Holland's guile kept things tight at one end claiming an early wicket of Waller, ably assisted by Mike Colquhoun, Kendall and Alamatu, OEs were never in the hunt.

In looking for victory Lewis introduced the highly promising leg spin of 14-year-old Will Coomer who was unplayable, finishing with three wickets for 19 runs, however Colwall could not remove stalwart Sanders.

The blend of youth and experience in the Colwall side bodes well for the rest of the season and they are optimistic about challenging for honours.
