COLWALL collected their second consecutive league win on Saturday defeating Bredon thanks to a comprehensive bowling display from Pete Thomas and Dave Sutton.

BREDON V COLWALL

Electing to field, Colwall soon reduced Bredon to 28-3, Damien Berry setting the trend by claiming opener Young's wicket after Steve Ferguson's catch behind. Pete Thomas followed suit with the first of his two wickets before Fenney (16) and Hill rescued the innings with a solid 52 partnership.

The former however fell to Tim Riley's superb one handed catch at first slip off Dave Sutton's bowling and the home side offered little from then on. Only Hill's 55 saved Bredon's blushes further but once he fell to Sutton (3-24 off 15) the middle order and tail collapsed.

Thomas collected an excellent four wickets, all bowled, for 39 runs and with Fred Conein collecting the final wicket of Washbourne in the 44th over, Bredon slumped to 107 all out.

Colwall's assault on the low total was made that much harder by the opening spell of Bridge (3-17 off 9) who dismissed Tom Wolfendale, Dave Powell and Richard Williams cheaply inside the first 13 overs.

The visitor's patient approach however paid off with Thomas digging in for a steady 29 runs after the nervous opening to the innings. With overs never a worry, Tim Riley's excellent shot play, especially through the off-side, steered Colwall to within sight of victory. His unbeaten 36 and a late surge of boundaries from Lee Hankins (19no) meant Colwall collected a six wicket win and maximum points.

COLWALL v BROCKHAMPTON

COLWALL were less fortunate however the following day, losing by five wickets to Brockhampton in a Sunday friendly.

Colwall's decision to bat first looked a good one early on as 63 runs flowed from the opening 10 overs. Tim Riley was responsible for much of the early push before slicing to Watkins at slip for 33 to become the first of Walker's three wickets. From then on the run rate decreased considerably as Walker and Owens (2-15) bowled accurately to reduce the Colwall advantage.

Only James Wagstaff's controlled 37 runs stopped a mini collapse and it needed a late hard-hitting 33 in 21 balls from Russell Bennett to push the home side's score on, finishing on 182-7 from their 40 overs.

Brockhampton's reply stuttered initially as Pete Thomas and skipper Paul Barnes collected a wicket apiece to leave the visitors at 39-2. The impressive Nahorniak (65) and Price (30) turned the game around though, quickly doubling the run rate and troubling the Colwall attack. Only Thomas (3-44) and Wagstaff (1-35) found any success with the ball and Walker's quickfire 40 in 28 balls, including three sixes, put Brockhampton within reach of the target.

Jennings and Harford's late double figure contributions saw them home with five wickets and seven balls left.
