BAD blood between Stourport Swifts and Redditch United has erupted again as the clubs clash over wing-back Alex Cowley.

Swifts manager Tim Langford has described an offer from Redditch for the talented 19-year-old as "derisory".

The two clubs have had a history of recriminations since former Swifts boss Rod Brown joined the Reds during last season, taking with him assistant Gary Whild, coach Brendan Hackett and prolific striker Lee Booth.

Former Stourport captain Lea Shaw also left Walshes Meadow for Redditch via Bilston Town and now Cowley has set his sights on linking up with Brown at the Valley Stadium.

Cowley had been on loan at to Halesowen Town, who were promoted to the Dr Martens Premier Division after winning the Western Division title, but the Yeltz could not afford to make the move permanent.

Langford admits he is disappointed at Cowley's decision to leave.

"Alex has indicated he wants to do pre-season with Redditch," said Langford.

"We are disappointed but will be seeking a fee it is as simple as that.

"His contract is finished but we've offered him fresh terms, which he's rejected, but because he's under 24 he is not free to move without a fee.

"Redditch have made a derisory offer that was turned down so we will see what happens.

"We are disappointed because we've looked after Alex and we rate him.

"We tried to get him a move to a club in a higher standard but he's turned round and said he wants to go somewhere else."

Meanwhile Langford is still waiting for captain Asa Charlton and defender Dave Davies to sign contracts having agreed terms for new deals but anticipates no fresh signings just yet.

"We are talking continuously with players and trying to attract them to the club but at the moment they seem to be biding their time and seeing what else comes along," he added.

Swifts have arranged pre-season friendlies at home against Stourbridge on July 29, Worcester City on August 6 and Halesowen Town on August 9.

In addition the club is poised to take part in a four-team mini-tournament on August 3 and 4 with Banbury United and two other teams to be finalised.
