A MEETING called by West Worcestershire MP Sir Michael Spicer is to discuss the safety of railway crossings in Malvern Link.

Sir Michael will meet Railtrack and county council officials on Monday (May 27) - a year on from the third fatality at the "Americans" crossing in recent years

He said: "I'm meeting with them at the Jamaica Road crossing to discuss accident preventative measures."

The family of Dave Boycott, who was hit by a train last May, have expressed their desire to see a footbridge erected to prevent a similar accident from happening again.

It is estimated that 100 children cross the train lines on their way to Dyson Perrins High School from Lower Howsell every day and that many others use the crossings to access playing areas on both sides of the tracks.

The meeting will also be attended by Railtrack community relations manager Deborah McIntosh, a Railtrack liabilities official, Railtrack engineer, Worcestershire County Council highways partnership manager Mike Davis and Des Smith, the county's high- ways engineering manager.

Sir Michael Spicer will also visit Broadheath Stores, in Lower Broadheath, at 1pm on the same day to discuss the protection of rural post offices.

On Tuesday, May 28, he will visit Worcester's new police station.
