IT seems we are almost daily confronted with evidence of the remoteness of politicians, both national and local, from the real concerns of their electorate.

In the scale of things, perhaps the future of Malvern Theatres is a small matter of little consequence to the majority - certainly it seems to be of no consequence to the majority of Malvern councillors who, apart from their discourtesy in not replying to the Theatre Association's letter of concern, seem indifferent to the fate of one of the town's greatest assets (Malvern Gazette, May 17).

The arrogance of councillors and council officers who apparently think they have a right to play political games under the cover of the so-called "Best Value review" invites the scorn and contempt of all who care about Malvern and who truly value, not least, the contribution made over many years by front-of-house volunteers who have helped to ensure the viability of the theatre in good times and bad.

The secrecy surrounding the "discussions" with the Ambassador Theatre Group is a total affront to the large, appreciative and loyal audiences who crowd into the two theatres and the cinema almost every night of the week.
