TIME clocks are to be fitted in some public toilets owned by Malvern Hills District Council in an effort to reduce energy costs.
Members of the executive committee agreed to fit devices to restrict the use of electricity outside 'normal' hours, by cutting off supplies to lights and hand dryers in its most energy-intensive buildings.
Toilets in Edith Walk, which last year consumed £2,513 worth of electricity, and Victoria Road, which used up £990, are the most energy-intensive and compare with a £601 average.
The council wants to save £3,000 this year on providing public toilets and has previously considered shutting some completely.
Members expressed concern at how such a move might affect vandalism but will consider options on tackling the problem and the possibility of fitting solar panels at a future meeting.
