THE first ever meeting of the EGGS (Express Golf & Gambling Society) took place last Friday at Sapey Golf Club with 22 members in attendance.

Captain Stu Summers tee'd off the morning's Texas scramble competition which was narrowly won by Duncan McKerracher, Ray Richardson and Rob Styles.

After lunch it was back onto the superbly maintained course for the big event, The Bilko Brookes Shield, a memorial trophy now to be played for annually and sponsored by Phil Smalley of Malvern Stone and Building Services.

The pressure of this inaugural event, coupled with a testing wind and light showers, made it all the tougher to consistently score points but it was Duncan McKerracher who handled it best to win the event with 34 points, ahead of Jason Brewer and Steve Philpotts.

Mark Haffield took nearest the pin whilst Martin Jones won longest drive and Kev Styles a special award for most golf played. Steve Philpotts was Egg of the day, managing to leave the changing room wearing a pair of shoes belonging to a Sapey member.

The next event is at Burgh Hill on Saturday, July 13.
