TWO Malvern girls have had some dramatic success in an award linked to a Hereford theatre.

Ceri Parks, 15, and Stephanie Harrison, 16, from Malvern, were part of a group of students at St Mary's RC High School in Hereford who won the Friends of the Courtyard Theatre Secondary School's Drama Award.

Their winning play, called Broken Promises, was a political satire set against the backdrop of the story of the Pied Piper.

Ceri was one of the scriptwriters and also played in the orchestra, while Stephanie played the wife of the politician whose demise was witnessed in the production.

Judge Peter Weeks said he was impressed with the standard of the play.

"As a piece of adult writing it would have been hailed a success. I was therefore amazed to be told that this mature and sophisticated script had been written by three 15 year olds," he said.
