ON Monday, May 27, the church choir will be rehearsing in St Mary's Church, at 6.30pm, under the direction of Wendy Thompson and accompanied by Edward Lane, organist. New members of any age or voice are always welcome.

Longdon Village Fete will be held on the recreation field and/or in the village hall tomorrow (Saturday), at 2.30pm. The traditional stalls and attractions will include games, raffles, tombola, hoopla, plants, cakes, white elephant, teas, pony rides, books and skittles. Maypole and country dancing by children from Longdon St Mary's School will begin at 3.45pm.

The fete will lead on to a Golden Jubilee 'bring and share' tea and party for everyone in the community, beginning at 4.30pm. All villagers are invited to bring a plate of food, plus their own cold drinks, and to wear read, white and blue or period costume. Tea and coffee will be provided. Entertainment will include maypole dancing and music from the 1950s. It is hoped every child under 18 who comes to this event and is resident in the parish or attends Longdon School, playgroup or Brownies will receive a souvenir Golden Jubilee medallion.

The benefice magazine will be printed and assembled in Longdon Vicarage on Tuesday, May 28, from 9am-4pm. The stewardship subcommittee of Longdon PCC will be meeting at 7.30pm at Westhill, Bear Lane.

On Wednesday, May 29, Longdon Churchwomen's Fellowship will be holding their open meeting in Longdon Village Hall at 7.30pm. The speaker will be Mrs Jenny Thwaites, demonstrating her skills in a talk 'Creative Woolcraft'. Other organisations have been invited to take part.

A reminder that Longdon Leapfrogs, a playgroup for under fives, meets on Tuesday and Thursday during term time in Longdon Village Hall, 9.30am-noon. Babies and children from nought up to and including four-year-olds welcome. The group employs qualified staff, has a high staff-to-child ratio and is registered with OFSTED and Social Services.
