AMBULANCE workers have been told they cannot have time off to watch World Cup matches.

The board of Hereford and Worcester Ambulance Service NHS Trust said at a board meeting yesterday that letting the workers watch matches would be impractical.

The request had come from staff as part of the Improving Working Lives programme.

But bosses agreed that letting paramedics and other ambulance workers watch the football would not work.

"A lot of employers are being flexible and if we can do something about it I don't see why not," said Brian Chambers, director of clinical services at the Trust.

But we just can't stop 999 calls, so crews will have to watch it in their cabs when they can."
