THIRTY four players of all ages took part in a Novice competition for beginners and improvers at Evesham High School.
Two events took place - an open singles and a handicap singles.
The open final was fought out by two adult players with Rob Sinderberry who, in the semi- final beat James Coy 5-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-5, facing Maria Casas who beat Andrew Bryant 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 on her way to the final.
Sinderberry came out on top to take the trophy 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.
In the handicap competition all four boys who reached the semi- finals were from Simon de Montfort School.
Andrew Bryant (scr) beat Luke Moffat (+1) 11-8, 11-9, 3-11, 5-11, 11-8 and Rune Dige (+2) beat Sam Byrd (scr) 11-2, 11-6, 11-5. In the final, Dige beat Bryant 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 to win the trophy.
In a consolation event for first round losers in the open competition, Jamie Anderson overcame David Townsend 11-9, 11-3, 11-3.
