WYCHAVON'S energetic youngsters showed they are good sports by scooping five first places in this year's Worcester-shire Youth Games.

Teams from Wychavon District, Broms-grove District, Malvern Hills District, Redditch Borough, Worcester City, Wyre Forest District Councils took part in the 12 events at Stourport Sports Club.

Wychavon had its best ever showing with first places in the boys hockey, Tennis, boys basketball, girls football rugby.

Wychavon's sports development officer, Jem Teal, said: "Our teams gave 110 per cent in all 12 events we took part in. It proved to be our best year ever and all credit goes to all the youngsters who trained so hard for the games - their efforts and commitment paid off.

"There are such talented youngsters in the district and the Youth Games are the perfect chance for these budding stars of the future to shine."

Wychavon's executive board member for Community Partnership, Cllr Martin Jennings, said: "This successful display shows that sport is alive, well and achieving in Wychavon. Thanks go to the youngsters, managers, teachers, parents and coaches for putting on this remarkable event."
