A RISING star of the classical music world, who embarks on an international tour this year, is coming to Kidderminster for an eagerly-anticipated recital.

David Quigley will play music by Beethoven, Liszt and Debussy in an event organised by the Classical Music Society at the town's library from 7.30pm on Friday, June 7.

He graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in July 2000 and is now studying with Brigette Engerer in Paris after a spell at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest.

David has tasted success in several national and international competitions, while highlights of his career include performing Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini to mark Sir Simon Rattle's award of an honorary doctorate by the University of Central England.

He has also made an appearance at the Edinburgh Festival and his Symphony Hall, Birmingham, debut in March last year, which was greeted with critical acclaim.

His extensive concerto repertoire includes performances with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, The Ulster Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra and Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra.

David's Kidderminster recital is one of several lined up as part of his 2002 season, while in November he plans to embark on a major recital tour representing the UK as part of the internationally acclaimed "Rising Star" series.

The tour will take in Koln, Amsterdam, Birmingham, Vienna, Salzburg, Brussels, Athens, London, Stockholm and New York.

Classical Music Society vice-chairman Von Stewart said: "David is very talented and we are extremely excited about his recital at the library."

Tickets are available from the library shop or by calling Mrs Stewart on 01562 755990.
