TWO schools from Kidderminster have been presented with awards for their work in strengthening links with the communities in their area.

Harry Cheshire High School and Franche First School are two of only three in the county to receive Schools Curriculum Awards in 2002.

Representatives from both schools will travel to London on Tuesday, June 11 to receive them from the Duke of Gloucester at Tate Modern.

Alan Gilhooley, acting headteacher at Harry Cheshire, said: "Winning the award is a fantastic achievement. As a community high school we are dedicated to working with residents and businesses in the area for the good of Harry Cheshire and the good of the community as a whole."

Val Weddell-Hall, headteacher of Franche First, added: "We're all absolutely delighted. We won a curriculum award last time around and we also received an achievement award earlier this year."

The award is designed to recognise work to promote citizenship, social inclusion, work-related learning and care for others.
