HEADTEACHER Bernard Roberts was understandably delighted after watching the Prince Henry's team record a momentous victory.

"It was a proud moment for me, the parents and the school but most of all the girls.

"They were well disciplined and tactically very sound. I have watched them on the hockey field from Year Nine and they thoroughly deserve their success. It has been a fantastic squad effort, they are a tremendous group of girls".

Coach, Elaine Shepperd, added her plaudits for her national winners.

"It was just fantastic!" she exclaimed. "Yes, it was tense at the end with our slender lead but the girls did everything that I asked of them. They stopped Cambridge playing and played the better hockey.

"Theyjust can't stop smiling. They loved the whole day. They adapted really well to the surface, which was water-based, as they are used to playing on the sand-based pitch.

"It didn't seem to affect them, though, and they were all looking forward to playing at what was a superb venue."

The headteacher presided over a special presentation in assembly this week.
