A Wyre Forest charity dished up plenty of food for thought at a fund-raising luncheon in Kidderminster.
The district's Cancer Research UK committee raised £433 at the event at the Gainsborough House Hotel, Kidderminster, on April 25.
Guest speaker Professor Lawrence Young, head of the cancer research unit in Birmingham, said fund-raising was vital to ensure continued research into the disease.
He gave an insight into the work being carried out to prevent cancer and to find cures and treatments.
He revealed that a state-of-the-art machine designed to kill brain tumours is due to be used on patients for the first time in about six months.
Prof Young also highlighted the shortage of cancer specialists and said incentives had to be given to doctors to work in the field, especially in research.
The Wyre Forest committee was formerly the Cancer Research Campaign and the new name follows the amalgamation of the CRC with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
