Sketchley Fliers rallied to blow away Tornadoes in the second round of the St Johns Sunday Skittle League.

An opening leg of just 41 enabled Tornadoes to take the bonus point with a steady 48 on the tricky Sketchley club alley.

Unable to maintain form, Tornadoes only posted a poor 38 on the second. Back came the Fliers to take the leg and then post a challenging 53 including three full frames.

Tornadoes responded with a fine 56 including a 16 spare from number six Keith Bushell to take a seven-pin lead into their fourth leg. They must have fancied their chances managing to record a consistent 52 leaving the Sketchley team 59 to catch.

They did it in style thanks to two consecutive spares of 12 and 13 by J. Hughes and T. Newman. Newman made it three spares in a row when he opened Fliers final leg with an 11 spare to give him a personal score of 43.

Their final leg of 50 left Tornadoes exactly that to win and despite a nine from number one Jack Edwards, they never were up to the task recording a 42 to run out losers by seven pins.

Meanwhile, Berkeley Boys easily beat Oddballs to go top of the table.
