Two singers from Broadway, John Martin-Stevens and John Southern, are to make their debut on the village hall stage next month.

John Martin-Stevens, a professional actor whose film credits include Mike Bassett, with Ricky Tomlinson and Crush with Andie McDowell, has written and directed shows for the resident amateur society, the Broadway Players.

He said "We started by playing around during the rehearsals for the last production. I let slip that I used to sing a bit and that maybe we could do a song together. On the night of the show John called my bluff by getting me up on stage to sing. It went really well and was the push that we needed to think about having a go at a whole evenings entertainment".

John Southern, who hopes to go professional this year, said: "It will be great to perform cabaret-style to a home crowd first."

The two have both sung live on a number of occasions, but the show will the first time they have performed as a double act.

Mr Martin-Stevens said: "John has more of a crooners voice than mine but I think that the blend will be good on stage, with solo's and

duets from Sinatra to Lloyd Webber. I've also written a few sketches and we will be supported on the night by a very talented dance troupe called, Quadraphenia.

The evening promises to be full of surprises and will include a licensed bar and a raffle to raise money for a 'ruffle bed' for Barn Close Surgery.

The show, which starts at 6.45pm, is on for one night only on Saturday, June 8. Tickets, costing £8 each, are available from Jelfs newsagents, the village post office and Gallimaufry -- all on Broadway's High Street.
