TONY McCoy took Worcester by storm yesterday -- clinching a treble success at Pitchcroft.

The champion duo of jockey McCoy and trainer Martin Pipe were delighted with Worcester's new improved surface as they romped to three winners.

McCoy struck gold on Puntal, Stormez and Valfonic on a top-class day for Worcester's race-goers.

Puntal was recording his third win in less than two weeks when making all the running and holding off Jaboune in the novice hurdle in the colours of Terry Neil.

Stormez had little more than an afternoon stroll before bettering Peasedown Tofano in the novice chase. But McCoy had his work cut out on board Valfonic, pushed all the way by Smooth Sailing.

Afterwards, McCoy declared that his aim for this season is, as usual, to ride as many winners as possible.

But he added that he would be targeting some of National Hunt's more prestigious events that have eluded him.

"I haven't won the Grand National yet," he said.

"Even though I seem to be getting closer each year, and there are also plenty of other big races which I have yet to win."

Meanwhile, Jason Maguire br-ought Arctic Challenge home in the £6,000 showpiece handicap chase in front of a 1,500 crowd on Worcester's second meeting of the summer season.

"The racing was very good," said Pitchcroft operations manager Katherine Self. "We had 101 runners on the day and only one faller.

"I think, if there were any concerns over the ground they have been put to bed after such a successful day's racing."
