A BOWLING alley on the ground floor with a two-screen cinema is on the cards for The Regal Cinema in Port Street, Evesham, now John Angel has sold it.

The keys were handed over on Monday to the purchaser, Alan Redpath, but so far he has declined to comment to the Journal.

The news, however, will be great for the town and the Bengeworth area in particular.

The Regal is the last remaining cinema in Wychavon, and for some months now the listed building has been closed while the sale has been progressing.

Lew Hammond, the Town Centres manager said: "It is wonderful news for the area. I was very much against listing the building because it seemed to slow progress down, but as soon as the Regal is up and running again the better it will be for Bengeworth."

Bengeworth Traders' Association chairman, Mike Taylor, said: "I'm absolutely delighted things have been resolved. Hopefully, it will provide a good facility for the whole of Evesham.

No formal plans have yet been submitted, but Wychavon's Heritage officer, David Page said: "We have been in discussion with the purchaser."
