SWIMMING: A squad of 13 and 14-year-old girls from Wyre Forest Swimming Club won the 4 by 50m medley relay in the Midland District Championships at Coventry.

Finishing fastest in the heats, Lauren Corbo (backstroke), Hannah Wear (breaststroke), Amy Smith (butterfly) and Emma Levitt (freestyle) were in pole position for the final.

Final positions: 1 Wyre Forest, 2 City of Coventry, 3 City of Leicester, 4 City of Oxford, 5 Bilston, 6 Norwich Penguins, 7 Ipswich, 8 City of Cambridge A.

Wyre Forest came second in the freestyle relay, just one second behind Coventry in the final, after finishing in a similar position in the heats.

The team was made up of Wear, Smith, Levitt and Sian Griffiths.

Final positions: 1 City of Coventry, 2 Wyre Forest, 3 City of Cambridge A, 4 Bilston, 5 Ipswich, 6 City of Oxford, 7 City of Leicester, 8 City of Derby.

Wyre Forest coach Godfrey Short said the wins at this level were the club's best achievements to date.

Short added the girls had fought off strong opposition from larger squad teams such as Birmingham, Coventry, Cambridge and Nova Centurion.
